Block Watch Meeting 11/20/14
Thursday night (11/20) was our first Quail Springs Block Watch meeting! There were six residents in attendance.
Our guest speaker Daniel Chavarria with Chandler PD walked us through the guidelines of the block watch program and answered our questions.
About the Program: The community will have a Block Watch Captain and as many managers as the community requires; one recommended approach is to have one manager per street. The Chandler PD will then distribute any current issues to the Block Watch Captain who will in turn distribute the info to managers.
The only other requirement is for 2 group meetings to be held each year which can include an officer if needed.
Crime Activity: Officer Chavarria also brought to our attention that burglaries have been on the rise in this area and surrounding neighborhoods have been getting hit (most recently 2 houses in Old Stone Ranch.)
Observations noted:
• Current violators have been young adults
• Majority of burglaries were between 11-2pm
• Corner houses getting hit due to easy parking/access from a side street without being noticed
• Typical entry points were from the backyard via sliding doors or master bedroom windows
• Someone going door-to-door handing out flyers, ringing the bell to determine who is home
For local crime activity go to RaidsOnline.com or download their phone app.
If you see something suspicious call Chandler PD at (480) 782-4130 (non-emergency)
DO NOT confront someone. If you need to report a vehicle, try taking a picture or write down the license plate# and let the police investigate it further.
Block Watch Group on NextDoor: We have started a Block Watch Group on NextDoor so people that are interested can receive updates and crime/safety information from the group.
We need more people to become involved for this program to be successful! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us via NextDoor.
Thank you to our residents for their interest in this program and helping to keep our community safe!
